What are Research Office Hours?

Research Office Hours are an opportunity to receive one-on-one assistance with a URO Research Coach for any research related queries. Our Research Coaches can help you to get a research position by providing support for the following:

  • Applying for a research lab
  • Writing a letter of interest
  • Applying for funding for a research project
  • Finding a lab relevant to your interests
  • Finding a job and volunteer postings

Drop-in and Appointment Office Hours

Drop-in Office Hours are held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 4 PM during the second, third, and fourth weeks of September. After September, Office Hours will be available by appointment only. Am I eligible for Research Office Hours?

We currently only offer the program to URO members. Membership is $5 and can be purchased at an Office Hours session.

What questions can I find help with during Office Hours?

We answer most questions related to research and research opportunities. For example: detailed steps on how to find a research lab, how to email professors, how to present your research, how to make a poster, etc. We can also discuss common questions: are my grades good enough? what is the best time to get into research labs? how do I get involved with REX? and what kinds of opportunities are available?

Who are the Research Coaches?

Our Research Coaches are senior undergraduate students with a range of different research experiences: co-op, Work-Learn, Directed Studies, volunteering in labs, applying for grants, attending conferences, and contributing to papers.

Will ROH offer me research positions?


Can I get a list of Principal Investigator (PI) contact information in the area of research I am interested in?

Most of this information is readily available online. If you are not able to find it, then we would be happy to help.

Can you help me write an email to PIs?

No, but we have templates and guiding questions that can help you get started. We would also be happy to look over them with you.

Is this service offered only for science students intending on pursuing research in sciences?

No! We are a multidisciplinary club and can offer help to students in all faculties interested in an type of research.

Can you look over my research CV?

Yes, we will provide general feedback.

Can you help me apply for a studentship or a grant?

No. You can ask us questions but we are not proofreaders.
