3. Summer Student Research Program
The SSRP provides $2800 for undergraduate students to complete an 8-week summer research project supervised by a member of the Faculty of Medicine. Applicants can secure a supervisor independently or apply to project postings on the SSRP website.
4. Go Global Self-directed Research Award (UBC)
If you are travelling outside of Canada to work under a supervisor at a government- or university-accredited research institution abroad, you may be eligible for $1000 – $2000 in funding.
5. Mitacs Globalink Research Award
This award provides $5000 – $7000 to undergraduate students participating in a supervised research project at a university in a Mitacs partner country (Brazil, China, France, Israel, Tunisia, India, Mexico, or South Korea).
6. UBC Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) Conference Grant
The AUS offers a maximum of $500 to cover up to 50% of total costs for Arts students who are attending extracurricular conferences.
7. Faculty of Science: Grant Support
UBC Science offers guidance and practical support for researchers in identifying potential funding sources and with the application process. Faculty members in all nine Science departments are encouraged to contact Kathie Thompson, the Faculty’s research grant facilitator.
8. Faculty of Science: Science Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Award
Formerly the “Dean of Science Undergraduate Research Awards”. Each position subsidizes the salary of a chosen student with the faculty member’s research grant providing a top-up. Many departments use the Science Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Awards for students who were not successful in the competition for a USRA, so apply as you would for a USRA early in second term of winter session.
9. Faculty of Medicine: Travel Award
A competition for travel awards for MD undergraduate students is available to assist with expenses related to participation in an official conference or symposium at which the student presents a paper or poster. All students who have a supervisor with a primary appointment in the Faculty of Medicine are eligible. Applicants must be an MD undergraduate at the time of travel and must currently be enrolled in the program.
10. Department of Chemistry: Summer Research Award
The Department of Chemistry is pleased to offer summer research opportunities for outstanding undergraduate students. These awards are meant to stimulate interest in research in chemistry, and to provide opportunities to gain research experience in an academic setting. Two types of awards are available, USRA and SURE, with differing eligibility and application procedures.

12. Irving K. Barber School Undergraduate Research Awards
The Undergraduate Research Awards (URA) program was established by the Irving K. Barber Endowment Fund Advisory Committee to provide exceptional learning experiences for undergraduate Arts and Sciences students at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
13. AMS Sustainability Project Grant
The AMS Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF) was established in September 2011, when UBC students passed a successful referendum to support student-initiated sustainability projects, through a $2.25 per student fee each year. The SPF encourages an environmentally conscious culture, by funding student-led projects that reduce the ecological footprint of UBC students and their campus.
14. Canadian Hemophilia Society: Summer Studentships in Inherited Bleeding Disorders Research
The Canadian Hemophilia Society will support interested Canadian Medical or Science students to work for up to 4 months during the Summer of 2015 on a research project relevant to inherited bleeding disorders.
15. Canadian Liver Foundation: Summer Studentship
One summer studentship may be awarded to a student in British Columbia whose research project is related to paediatric liver disease.
16. The Society for Vascular Surgery: Lifeline Student Research Fellowship
The Student Research Fellowship, established by the SVS® Foundation, stimulates laboratory and clinical vascular research by undergraduate college students and medical school students registered at universities in the United States and Canada.
